What panel do you use?

It depend on the situation.  Most of our panel comes from industry leaders Askin and we’ll use a combination of their standard SL grade polystyrene or their more advanced XFLAM product.

What is XFLAM?

XFLAM uses specific Phenolic resins and a number of filling materials including EPS bead and specialist polymeric substances to provide a composite blend that offers enhanced fire resistance and excellent mechanical and thermal insulation properties.

When something special is called for.

When European Foods needed something special, they called the specialists.  In mid 2019 Arcus were approached to engineer and build something no one in WA had done before and build what is believed to be the southern hemispheres biggest glass cool room.

We’re not talking about a cool room with lots of glass doors, we’re talking a 12 meter by 5 meter by 4 meter tall glass cool room.  That’s 240 cubic meters of refrigerated space designed to look spectacular but not to outshine the excellent product it holds.

What were the challenges when building the cheese cathedral?

Many come to mind, but the major task was trying to get a glass room with as little framing as possible, there was then the issue of needing to hide the internal workings of the room so it doesn’t just look like a cool room.

Advanced refrigeration monitoring

Have you heard of XWEB?

As our monitoring system of choice, XWEB allows you to automatically take regular recordings of your cool room and freezer rooms’ temperatures, which is great for HACCAP data collection.

Furthermore, XWEB will alert you and our service team via email or text if there is a problem, such as an increased temperature over an unusual period or if there is a problem with your refrigeration equipment. It also allows our technicians to make remote changes to your systems set up if required. XWEB is a great option, so ask our refrigeration consultants to tell you more.

Cool room rack systems

Individual compressor systems play an important role in cool rooms and freezer rooms. They are by far the most commonly used method of refrigeration. However, when it comes to multi room systems, it may be more appropriate to use a rack refrigeration system. There are many advantages to using a rack system, but the two that are normally most important to customers are:

Capacity control.  Since the whole rack of compressors provides the required capacity for the connected refrigerated rooms, as the room load reduces, individual compressors can be cycled on and off to match the needed capacity. When compared to individual compressor installations, this can be a tremendous energy and cost saver.

Redundancy. In a rack-based system with redundancy built in, if one compressor fails, the other compressors can normally carry the load. This gives you much needed time to get a technician to site and have repairs made without any downtime.
